The Inevitable Speed Death of the Universe

Just wanted to vent for a moment about the game, because I love it and the late game lag is breaking my heart. Actually, late game lag isn't even how I would describe it. I get to juuuuust after the mid-game crisis, usually, before performance just dives off a cliff.
Yesterday, I put the Great Khan in his place just as the game slowly ground to a halt. Sure, I could play a smaller map mode. Less systems, fewer pops, better speed. But the game is about space, no one wants to play a game about space in a galaxy the size of a broom closet. While I do enjoy the rarity and value of planets with their numbers greatly reduced, I just want space to be and feel expansive. I love the exploration, I love the empty gaps of darkness slowly being filled over hundreds of years. I love the vast, sometimes hostile pockets you get to explore and the hundreds of brilliant anomalies and other stories the writers so graciously stuffed the game with. The game is amazing, an absolute work of art. I can not even begin to imagine the work that must have gone into creating all of the individual parts of this game, it truely is impressive to behold.
I just wish I could play it.
Also, just as a note I love everything about the game except the lag pretty much, each update has made it better, some by a little, some by a lot. It's a masterpiece of sci-fi fusion and is right up there in my favorite games of all time. It lets me build an empire in a way that just feels better than CK2 (another true love of mine). The stories and the flavor of the game are phenomenal and so is the way they are released. The Paradox style; multiple dlc's over a long window game-building strategy, is one that I wish was industry standard. Like, do I have $15 to spend on more Stellaris every once in a while? Hell. Yes. I know it tends to get a bit extreme by the end of it, CK2 was over $200 dollars (all content) when I first started buying expansions, but I don't feel like they've ever really let me down. I don't feel nickel and dimed, I feel like I have been supporting a solid workforce making one of the best games I've ever played. I've felt that way twice now with Stellaris and CK2. So, with all this said, can we as the community please, please, please keep throwing money at them until this game truly shines.
You all know that's how things get done. It's not by whining and complaining online, it's by injecting a business with the almighty power of cold hard cash. That's how they keep the lights on, that's how they employ the brilliant workers who make this game so great. Buy your expansions on sale, but buy those fuckers. Look up a ranking guide and buy the best one each month. Spread them out, go slow, don't feel like you've got to get them all at once, but buy them if you like the game and want it to improve, they are great, horizon signal is cosmological horror of the highest caliber. Be discerning though. Some of the dlc may not be gameplay, and if you aren't interested in the soundtrack, for example, then you could perhaps avoid that. I actually believe that by selectively purchasing certain types of dlc and content you can control the direction the company takes the game.
Take the FIFA video game franchise for example. They were one of my favorites, I love soccer, I love making a character and working my way up the ranks in career mode, and I continued for years to buy the game for those reasons. However, unbeknownst to me a larger faction of players was investing heavily into some of their nascent online systems. Ultimate Team had just been becoming a thing and more and more payers were buying cosmetics and other things with real money to spice up their online matches. Because this group was spending, what I can only assume was, an insane amount of money, the FIFA brand began shifting in that direction. EA as a whole at this point is fairly well known for their not so great monetization practices. What I'm saying though is that the EA player community doomed itself through the purchase of cosmetics over content. These companies will cater to the player base because they need the money, the problem is that people are too willing to spend money on nothing.
This is why I highly recommend checking out some dlc ranking videos, it's all opinion, but the dude I watched the other day on YouTube had some good ones and gave fantastic reasons for why you would want to buy one dlc over another. Buy the ones you're interested in, check out the Dev Diaries, they are pretty short and super interesting. Above all be an informed consumer, do some research, find out what you like about the game and make sure that's what you're getting. The people making this game are doing an amazing job, yes there are issues, but the scale of the game if enormous and it's only getting bigger. I personally don't know diddly squat about how video games are made even in the most basic of terms, but they are my favorite form of entertainment. They edge out books by a nose, for me, because of the stories they tell. I want to continue to see the video game storytelling tradition grow and thrive as I grow up because it has been so fundamental to me in terms of how I perceive the current cultural narrative. Good storytelling is good storytelling and games can have the same reflective impact as books or cinema, oftentimes in an even more immersive, sometimes visceral way. Now, with all that vr shit, it won't be long before we are just playing Stellaris in our heads and I for one welcome the brave new future.
Also, modders, I haven't delved too much into your work, the steam workshop is a bit of a mess and the game is barely playable as is, so I just haven't gotten around to it. However, is it possible to get a Patreon scene started for the game (if there isn't one already)? I'm sending the Ai Dungeon dude Nick Walton $5 a month just to say I did my part, could we not do the same for modders? I understand if there are legal issues involved with monetizing someone else's brand, but it's something to think about, if legal.
To anyone who read all this congratulations. You, my friend, are a true Patriot. Or, maybe like me, you have far too much time on your hands. All because you carved out a big block of your morning to play Stellaris, but just couldn't bring yourself to play knowing that it would all fall apart before 2500. Maybe you as well as I, looked forlornly into the inky blackness surrounding the hastily slapped together Lithoid Purifiers you'd chosen to keep the game at maximum efficiency and you just couldn't continue. Maybe you also knew that what you truely wanted was to play a Fanatic Xenophile Ultimate Fuck Machine Build and take the universe by the unholy force of sexual integration. Maybe you thought 1000 systems was kinda small as well and wished you had a Soviet supercomputer to run 10 or 100 thousand. I want to be lost in the infinite complexity of this game and it is so fucking close.
Seriously though, like what kind of hardware do I need to run this game, is it possible, or is even top end consumer stuff having issues. I didn't skimp out on my build, I had a budget, but it has been capable of playing basically any game I've thrown at it no problem. Sure I may have to turn down some graphic settings on Fallout 4, but like honestly it's not terrible, if I'm not wearing glasses it might as well be perfect, blurs out all the rough edges. Who has a build that can run this game, what is it, how much time, money, or effort, did it take to achieve?
TLDR: I really want to play Stellaris but just can't bring myself to start another new game knowing it's all going to be over before the mid-game. Above is a rambling essay I wrote instead of playing Stellaris this morning, detailing my thoughts and opinions about the game itself (love it). As well as all of my hopes and dreams.
